Review of the RSC production of Cymbeline, directed by Melly Still. An all-out production on set, costumes, direction, acting. A great version of this slightly obscure Shakespeare play, set in a dystopian future Britain after Brexit. And Rome (or the EU) seek tributes.A lot of gender switches too.

Review of the NT Live broadcast of Hamlet starring Maxine Peake in the title role. This Manchester Royal Exchange production also cast women as Polonius (Polonia), the gravediggers, Guildenstern and the Player King. It was considerably more post-edited than earlier NT Live filmed plays. That’s three major Shakespeare tragedies close together! I need a rest …
