Review added of This is My Family, a musical play by Tim Firth at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre. Judging by recent Chichester productions, this one will go on to the West End, and every member of the cast was a joy to watch. James Nesbitt and Sheila Hancock are the best-known.  I’m not so sure about the music though.

Review of Me & My Girl (LINKED HERE) at Chichester Festival Theatre. Every year, Chichester produces a classic musical with a lavish production and brilliant music. Here it’s that most English of 1930s musicals, Me & My Girl 1937. It caused a sensation as star Matt Lucas missed press night, and the understudy, Ryan Pidgen received a “frenzied standing ovation”.

Review of Alan Bennett’s Forty Years On at Chichester Festival Theatre, featuring Richard Wilson as The Headmaster. A huge cast … five teachers, ten “professional” pupils (who also play music) and a local addition of FIFTY-TWO extras as schoolkids. It’s set in 1968, and was Alan Bennett’s first play. A great production in all areas.
