New review of THE POWER OF THE DOG (linked) which appears (free) on Netflix from yesterday. Directed and scripted by Jane “The Piano” Campion. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smith-McPhee. The film got glowing 5 star reviews. Oddly, it didn’t work for us on the first night, but was superb when we rewatched the next afternoon. Great climax, but do not go in expecting a classic western. In spite of great Montana landscapes, it’s not. Think instead a tinge of (American) Gothic.
