Review of The Lady: A Homage to Sandy Denny at Basingstoke added.

This tribute show included P.P. Arnold, Lavinia Blackwell, Thea Gilmore, Maddy Prior and Joan Wasser (Joan As Policewoman). It was a wonderful evening, and I think this short tour will be like the Leonard Cohen tributes and become part of recent rock history.

I copied the interesting COMMENT below to the main review page and replied there. There are now quite a few comments on the main review.

The Waterboys

Review of The Waterboys on their Appointment With The Waterboys tour added. This is a VERY mixed reaction. I thought the first half  poor, and the second half brilliant.

It’s not a “trilogy’ at all, but the three Shakespeare plays involving shipwrecks are presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company with an ensemble company in 2012.

RIP Levon Helm

Levon Helm of The Band died this afternoon after a long battle with cancer. Levon’s voice was the soundtrack to so many of the most important moments of my life, The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, King Harvest, Daniel and The Sacred Harp  all have very personal meaning to me, and so does his singing and playing to the lives of so many others. His indomitable spirit shines out, as it always has. If you have to list the men I have admired most in my life, Levon Helm is right in the first rank. My thoughts to Sandy Helm, Amy Helm, Garth and Maud Hudson, Robbie Robertson and all his family and friends.

The Unthanks

My fourth concert by The Unthanks at The Point, Eastleigh reviewed today. Brilliant as ever, and no songs from December’s show. Very few from last Spring!
