Macbeth – Chichester 2019 review

We have seen so many productions of Macbeth since the referendum. Treachery is in the air. This Macbeth (FOLLOW LINK TO REVIEW) is at Chichester Festival Theatre with John Simm as Macbeth and Dervla Kirwan as Lady Macbeth. It runs till late October. The star is the lighting design for me.

Teaching trivia? link

I was taken by an article on Ken Wilson’s blog on culture in textbooks, and on English as a Lingua Franca (which I’ve linked off the main Teaching Trivia? article). It reminded me of some humorous passages in “Foreign Affairs” set in a language school in 1972, so long ago. You may enjoy them. We saw the Watermill Theatre’s 2018 production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2018, and I reviewed it and gave it 5 stars. Now it’s touring the UK in repertory with their 2019 production of Macbeth (which I’ve also reviewed). We decided to go and see how this transferred to bigger stages with more than half the cast new. We saw it in Poole. Follow the link to A Midsummer Night’s Dream Watermill Tour 2019.

Review of THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT (follow link). Written and directed by Sean Foley, adapted from the 1951 Ealing Comedy. We saw it in Bath, on its pre-London run. It will be in London until January. This is going to be a massive stage success, 5 star.

The Famous Five

Having completed the review of Malory Towers, I remembered an article on The Famous Five from 2007. (FOLLOW THE LINK) It’s by my friend, Paul F. Newman and I have added it to this blog under “rants”. It’s a very funny analysis. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again and commend it to you.

Malory Towers – review

Review of Emma Rice’s stage adaptation of Enid Blyton’s MALORY TOWERS series (FOLLOW LINK) This is a semi-musical and the review also discusses Enid Blyton in general. But mainly it’s on this excellent production, now touring.

Review of Hedda Tesman by Cordelia Lynn, (FOLLOW LINK)a modern rewrite of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. At Chichester’s Minerva theatre with a superb cast. For us, the updating to modern times worked well.
