Review of The Rivals by Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1775) at the Watermill Theatre. A fast, extremely funny version with a superb cast and great adaptation. Well worth the journey to this beautiful theatre set in the countryside.

Review of the Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Duchess of Malfi, directed by Maria Aberg. The production has been noted for its unprecedented quantity of blood on stage, but what struck me were the great performances, dancing and music. A five star review. Joan Iyiola as the Duchess. Alexander Cobb as twin brother, Ferdinand.

Eugene O’Neill’s American classic play Long Day’s Journey Into Night has garnered many four star reviews (and some five star) in the London production with Jeremy Irons and Lesley Manville. My review is a rare one with negative points … read why.

A new rant added “The End of Deference” (LINKED). It considers the communication skill of “deference” and why it has disappeared from supermarkets!

Review of Philip Meeks’ play Murder, Margaret & Me at Salisbury Playhouse, running for a month. This is an intriguing comedy thriller based on the relationship between Agatha Christie and her first screen Miss Marple, Margaret Rutherford.
