What? George Clooney and Felicity Jones and David Oyewole on Netflix at home? This must have been intended as an SFX blockbuster, but here it is. I’ll try to do short reviews of obviously major movies as they appear. THE MIDNIGHT SKY reviewed here. No plot spoilers either.

A little later this year … my review of my favourite music of 2020. (LINKED) A limited year undoubtedly, but here you go. And the best album of the year is …

Paul F. Newman wrote an article on Agatha Christie, focussing particularly on TEN LITTLE INDIANS reviewed yestrday. He gave permission for me to reproduce it on this site. So, for much more on Agatha Christie and versions of And Then There Were None, see Paul F. Newman’s 2007 article: Agatha Christie: Deduction in a dell’arte maskreprinted on this site.

It’s been a while since I added to the 60s Retrospective series. This is TEN LITTLE INDIANS from 1965, a version of Agatha Christie’s And Then There were None, but with a happier ending.

While we’re putting up these In English Book 3 songs, we might as well do more. This is Gerry Goffin & Carole King’s “I Want To Stay Here” (LINKED) – it was a big hit back in the day, but doesn’t appear on any Goffin-King compilations.

Stay (version)

Just put up the first audio file here. STAY from In English-Book 3, our cover of Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs classic (as also done by The Four Seasons, The Hollies, Jackson Browne). This was specially recorded for IN ENGLISH (now out of print). Follow the link to the page.

Christmas and the Oscar season means new films are coming thick and fast, and this year that’s on Netflix. MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM (linked) is a predicted Best actor / Best actress for Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis. They may be right. It’s based on August Wilson’s stage play and is a snapshot, a day in the life, not a bio-pic. A must-see, though it has some issues.

Review added of Netflix musical THE PROM (linked) … with a stellar cast, Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Rannells. A major 2020 version of the 2018 Broadway Musical. No plot spoilers or joke giveaways at all, as it’s on now.

Best of 2020

My annual review of reviews BEST OF 2020 is linked. I usually do three, but I’ll do two this year. Recorded music to follow, as I’m waiting for more to arrive. This is different. Very different. Theatre? Up to the end of February. Film? All except one was seen at home. Only two concerts … and lots of 60s Retrospective reviews. Take a look …

This year, it’s a question of Netflix or Amazon Prime rather than Odeon v Cineworld. The latest review is MANK on Netflix, (SEE LINK) the “Citizen Kane” prequel or how Citizen Kane was written by Herman Mankiewicz (and not by Orson Welles). Gary Oldman, Tom Burke, Charles Dance … hold on, they’re all British. See the review.
