Christmas and the Oscar season means new films are coming thick and fast, and this year that’s on Netflix. MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM (linked) is a predicted Best actor / Best actress for Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis. They may be right. It’s based on August Wilson’s stage play and is a snapshot, a day in the life, not a bio-pic. A must-see, though it has some issues.

This year, it’s a question of Netflix or Amazon Prime rather than Odeon v Cineworld. The latest review is MANK on Netflix, (SEE LINK) the “Citizen Kane” prequel or how Citizen Kane was written by Herman Mankiewicz (and not by Orson Welles). Gary Oldman, Tom Burke, Charles Dance … hold on, they’re all British. See the review.
