Henry VI: Three Plays

Review of the Globe on Tour production of Henry VI: Three Plays. Unfortunately it’s reviewed at Bath, indoors at the end of a summer of touring which included several outdoor shows.  We saw all three plays in a day, under their original Elizabethan titles: Harry  The sixth, The Houses of York and Lancaster, The True tragedy of The Duke of York. Only in 1623 did they get retitled Henry VI Parts 1, 2 and 3.

What Maisie Knew

Review of What Maisie Knew added to the Films section. An excellent, well-constructed, beautifully written and acted movie, updating the Henry James story to the modern day, with Maisie’s mother as a rock star.

Much Ado About Nothing

The Old Vic production looks great on paper: Mark Rylance directing James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave in Much Ado About Nothing at the Old Vic (see link). The result is one of the dullest, most misguided Shakespeare plays I’ve ever seen.

Reds 2

Review of Reds 2 added (linked here). It’s a generic shoot-em-up with the best actors Hollywood can buy slumming it for the money. But Malkovitch, Parker and Willis are funny.
